Message from the Director

The Department of Performing Arts is poised to deliver a first-rate arts program to its students.  We have been implementing our eMap curriculum, coupled with our new curriculum guide.  Our curriculum guide collaboration allowed the staff with maximum input to allow for suggestions and comments.  Grade level expectations and assessments will be delivered to offer standardize teaching throughout the district.  The assessments will focus on the three artistic processes: create, respond, and perform.

Our 2009 initiative of increasing participation in our instrumental program was realized.  We will continue to provide all interested Bridgeport students the opportunity to play an instrument.  We have garnered support from various community organizations in an effort to bolster the love of music to all students.

Our department is very proud of our SOAR after school and Summer Enrichment programs.  We are able to provide the students with additional music lessons and opportunities to increase their skill level throughout the school year.  The parents have praised the additional uninterrupted music lessons, which they could not possibly afford in these tough economic times. The staff is working tirelessly to build on the present successes of the music program in our district.

“Music education opens doors that help children pass from school into the world around them- a world of work, culture, intellectual activity, and human involvement.  The future of our nation depends on providing our children with a complete education that includes music.”                                                    -Gerald Ford, former U. S. president
