Our curriculum will provide the core and instrumental music teachers with an excess of information guaranteed to provide each student with an equitable opportunity to receive a standardized, balanced and functional music program. This will be achieved through singing, movement, playing, evaluating, listening and creating. These skills will provide our students with the ability to meet the requirements of the Connecticut Standards for Music.
The music staff will be provided with professional development opportunities to create district-wide assessments. These assessments will be used to
- guide our instruction,
- monitor and improve student learning in the arts,
- assess the current knowledge of our students,
- select student work to benchmark, and
- prepare our students for the upcoming Common Arts Assessment
We will also utilize the music trace maps, which were designed to help us translate Connecticut's K-12 Arts performance standards in the areas of music, and theater into objectives and classroom practice.
The Trace Maps provide more specific description of what students should know and be able to do at smaller grade level clusters. The elements in the Trace Maps are designed to lead students toward the attainment of Connecticut's standards in each discipline.
